Pineal activation. HD....everything. An “immersive audiovisual experience” rather than a band or a production duo. Exo, Gatekeeper's latest full-length, is complemented by a first-person gaming environment melding World Heritage sites, IMAX cinematography, the acid squelch of the Roland TB-303, and hyper-futuristic techno.
There are moments of genuine noise and terror this PA-based singer-songwriter's debut solo LP, "All Hell", but not of the devil's-horns kind. Instead, he fashions ghostly, haunting country-ish ballads out of Christian gospel samples and looping audio software while his rich baritone narrates small-town tragedy.
The new musical project of Pittsburgh-based multi-instrumentalist Jennifer Baron, a founding member of Brooklyn's The Ladybug Transistor, finds itself at the intersection of pop music, soundtracks, experimentation, and synth-driven ambience.
Producing since the age of 17, this UK breakout artist's physical 808-based club tracks project his love for regional US music styles. "Referencing the R&B of Jagged Edge, Southern rap production circa 2004, and dubstep’s finer moments – Girl Unit may never catch his breath from a track that helped define a new era of sonic intersection. Thankfully, he and his Night Slugs cohorts adhere instead to the principles of progress and futurism. His third EP, “Club Rez,” is a defiant, sophisticated piece of club music that will have cyborgs fucking like our parents did to Prince." - Cluster Mag
Los Angeles-based composer/multi-instrumentalist Julia Holter blurs the boundaries between indie, modern composition, and electronic music in her own work as well as her collaborations, which include work with Nite Jewel's Ramona Gonzalez and underground folk icon Linda Perhacs. "Pulling in references and sounds from everywhere and shaping them into a music that's both haunting and life-affirming, something to make you dream and think." - Pitchfork
Polyrhythmic waves of bent synths. The solo live electronics project of Paris/Nancy-based audio/visual artist Saphy Vong.
In a world full of rappers claiming to be one of a kind, Le1f is a complicated personality full of seeming contractions. An out and proud gay MC whose style is rooted in Tunnel bangers from a less socially enlightened era of hip-hop / A producer responsible for the beat behind Das Racist’s “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” / A fashion icon promoting a “hoodrat Tumblr aesthetic” / An Internet personality on a transcendental quest to become a living digital avatar. His breakout single "WUT" had some wondering, is Le1f "too gay for hip hop?".
An outspoken voice in the normally non-confrontational world of electronic dance music, Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.) is committed to keeping a distinctly black imprint on techno and house. Moodymannr has successfully transported his world of 8-mile roller rinks to the world stage. Making dusty soul samples into undeniable house loops, KDJ doesn’t make tracks, he makes classics.
As the prime architects of Moombahton – Nadastrom aren’t just pushing 21st century dance music toward the edge – they’re jumping off it. The D.C.-born, L.A.-based DJ-producers come from different backgrounds, but share a ravenous appetite for extremes. A sound Nada invented on the fly at a basement party by slowing Dutch house music down to the tempo of reggaeton – they have been praised in the pages of Spin and Rolling Stone, pumped on the airwaves of BBC Radio 1 and NPR, and revered at nightclubs and festivals across the planet.
“Baile crunk,” anyone? This Brazil-to-Brooklyn artist is bringing her own post-modern brand of baile funk to the world’s stages. Portuguese on the mic — to the immediate delight of everyone within ear shot. From her international vantage point she operates like a provocatively rhyming hurricane, sucking up global riddims from ghettotech to dancehall and flinging them back out at gale-force speeds.

Drawing from a wide range of tropical riddims and urban electro, the power of Poirier’s bass blasts through any flimsy attempt to classify his music. Pinpointing the bits and pieces of dancehall beats, soca energy and electronic intensity is futile in the face of this producer's dance-driven creativity and air horn-worthy excitement. Signed to Ninja Tune, this is a man who just understands what works in the dance.
AKA DJ S2 [Historia Y Violencia, UR], Santiago is a second wave techno producer emerging out of Los Angeles in the 1990′s who moved to Detroit to join the highly respected Underground Resistance. After touring the world as a sought-after DJ from Liquid Room (tokyo) to Fabric (london) he launched Ican Productions, with releases charted by Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier to name a few.
These juke/footwork legends continue to bring their sound worldwide, constantly innovating a style born out of house parties and underground dance competitions in Chicago.
Known for their extravagant live shows, SSION "shun" is a smart, subversive, pop-song performance project born out of Kansas City. Frontman Cody Critcheloe and a cast of character-friends have gained notoriety for their gay-disco-meets-punk-rock musical stylings and outrageous live shows and videos, recalling something between twisted humor of Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Madonna’s Blond Ambition.
A boundless sonic explorer of towering technical proficiency, Slowpitch is a turntablist fascinated by the interplay between sound, movement, and live performance. Founding member of revered experimental turntable band iNSiDEaMiND, his innovative, science-fiction-inspired rhythmic productions are sure to carry you through to another universe.
Sludgy, bass-heavy productions, this UK producer's twisted dancefloor entries have best been described by Pitchfork as sounding “like hellish vultures picking over the carcass of dance music."
Spaced out, minimal broken techno from Kentucky - the solo live electronics project of audio/visual artist Robert Beatty (also of Hair Police, Burning Star Core).
Shrouded in mystery! Those special extended disco versions have been carefully tuned, remixed, over-dubbed, sliced and diced by UK's Larry Tiger and David Woods, who In an endless rain of edits, use both recognizable and exotic sources supplemented with original production to take you to undiscovered terrains that somehow feel like home.
The solo live electronics project of Nate Young (of Wolf Eyes, Stare Case) hits home that October vibe with productions that are slow, creepy and turgid with impending doom.
